This design is the evolution of two different construction approaches. Frame and panel and panel. Neither seamed right to me and I needed the benefits of both. With frame and panel you can raise the carcass off the ground with legs and the inset floating panel facilitates wood movement and provides interesting detail. However the construction is complicated. The panel method simplifies construction but you loose the details. So here I have adopted a hybrid approach. Keep the legs and details but simplify the joinery all the while respecting wood movement.
